Purple and sweet: Everything Ube

One of our most popular flavours hailing from the Philippines is Ube! The Filipino ingredient has become a worldwide dessert phenomenon for its sweet, nutty and irresistible flavour. Pronounced ooo-beh, this purple root has become a staple flavour in dessert stores worldwide. Although In the Philippines, it’s been used for desserts long before its resurgence on social media.

Traditionally ube was used in Filipino desserts such as Halaya and Ginatang bilo bilo, for its naturally vanilla, nutty, sweet flavour that you just can’t find in anything else, not to mention its royal purple look!

But Ube isn’t just a pretty little face, behind its sweet and purple exterior it hides a whole lot of health benefits as well. Each root is packed with vitamins, antioxidants, fibre and potassium. It’s been the go-to answer for superfoods in the Philippines for generations.

Although Ube is known for sweet treats, it has a wholesome, savoury side. In many Asian cuisines, ube finds itself in stews and curries for its sweetness and toothsome texture while giving off that purple glow!

Here at Bing Chillin we celebrate ube for its vanilla-y, almost pistachio-like flavour and mesmerising purple that’s unique to anything across our menu.
